Agility is a sport that emphasizes teamwork between dog and handler when both teams are in motion. The dog is responsible for following cues and completing the obstacles and the handler is responsible for navigating the course and giving clear information in time for the dog to respond!
The world of dog agility is very welcoming regardless of goals. I really enjoy agility training but am not a high level competitor. I enjoy club trials and have competed in the provincial championships (AAC Ontario East) with good success. High level competitive agility is akin to an olympic sport with world championships coming down to hundredths of a second and handlers sustaining a lifestyle that is fully dedicated to preparing an elite athlete.
Some tollers have done well at the national and international stage, but the typical toller is more likely to enjoy slightly more modest goals. Agility classes can be found in nearly every city and are a great way to build teamwork with your toller.
