Tollers have great noses and learning scent sports is a great way to exercise their brain and body. Nosework or Sport Detection involves teaching your dog to communicate to you the precise location of a scented hide. The target odours are designated by the titling organization and are typically tiny amounts of essential oils such as wintergreen, pine, thyme, etc. Tracking involves teaching your dog to follow the path of the tracklayer and indicating any articles dropped along the way. The dogs use a combination of human scent from skin rafts and disturbances in the environment to retrace the steps. For both these sports there are classes in person and online, books, and mentors. Be forewarned, once you get started, they are quite addicting! All of our tollers have shown us their talented for sniffing.
