Foxgrove Lineage

This page is a work-in-progress that aims to preserve the memories of our dogs’ ancestors. These are dogs from the present and past that made a significant contribution to the breed. They can be found behind many lovely tollers today. These highly accomplished dogs were bred, raised, trained, and loved by Sue and comprise the direct maternal line behind Fizz, and now Scout, back to the foundation dam of Foxgrove Kennels. This is but one branch of their respective pedigrees, and is only one branch of the Foxgrove Kennel legacy. It is a lineage that I admire enormously for the contribution to the breed.

Descriptions and photos are used with permission by their owner, Sue Kish.

Many of these dogs are documented in the book that was originally written by Alison Strang and Gail MacMillan, originally written in 1996 and updated in 2014: The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

GMH CH FOXGROVE’S ANNIE GET YOUR GUN CD WCX

“Annie”

DOB: JULY 27, 2009

Annie is a Raisin/Josh daughter and Sue’s constant companion. She loves to retrieve and has a leaping water entry. She is sweet, loves everyone and is great with kids. She is solidly built at 18+ inches and 40 pounds. Annie is the dam of Slice and of Fizz, and is grand dam of Scout.

Annie is a nice combination of being excellent in the duck blind but also having a perfect “off switch” in the house. Extremely birdy, a marking fool, tons of water courage, handles like a dream, are just a few words to express her trainability and desire in the field. A WC/I/X in one day at 10 months of age, SH earned by 11 months, a Grand Master Hunter title at 3 yrs old, Annie’s solid working pedigree is shining through. Annie also earned her Show Championship in 2 weekends. She is solid in both mind and body. Annie’s kids and grandkids are doing well in multiple venues. She is stamping her sweet temperament and birdiness on her offspring.

Chelsey: I first met Annie as a puppy during my very first visit to Foxgrove. She is as close as I’ve ever met to my ideal toller in mind and body. As of today, at nearly 14, she is a joyful teenager who lives an active life doing all the things she loves. She is still very much a retrieving fool! My favourite messages from Sue have Annie videos attached.

GMH CH FOXGROVE’S RAISIN’ CAIN QFTR AM MH US/CDN WCX CD

“Raisin”

NOV. 2002 TO JUNE 2015

Raisin, Annie’s Dam, shone as Sue’s hunting companion. She had excellent tracking and marking abilities and would not quit on a bird. She was calm in the blind, often sleeping with her head in Sue’s lap while waiting for the birds to come in.

Raisin was a very talented competitor earning both her AKC and CKC MH titles by the time she was 2 1⁄2. In 2008 she became the second Toller to earn the Grand Master Hunter title. In the Field Trial venue her Qualifying Field Trial Retriever (QFTR) title was earned by placing in 3 straight trials to earn the 10 points necessary to add this title to her name and became the only Toller with a Field Trial title to their credit. In the obedience ring her CD came in 3 straight trials with 195 to 198.5 scores to her credit. In the show ring she finished in 2 weekends with a 5 point Booster win as a puppy.

In the whelping box Raisin produced 4 litters that are showing a lot of her talent. Six have graduated from the Canada Customs drug detection program. Other offspring are excelling in field, obedience, agility and conformation venues.

Chelsey: Raisin has been grandmother or great grandmother to all of my tollers. I have been fortunate enough to meet Raisin on a number of my trips to Foxgrove.

HIT BOSS CH FOXGROVE THE CHASE IS ON SH WCX CDX US WCI

“Chaser”

OCT. 1995 TO MAY 2012

Chaser, a Chelsea daughter and Raisin’s dam, shared 16 1⁄2 wonderful years with Sue. She may be the sweetest, kindest and most patient dog that Sue will ever own. She loved everyone and everything and would do anything to please. She loved to carry anything and offer it to Sue with her rapidly wagging tail. Her lifetime has so many highlights and she left Sue with so many memories.

She was a special dog in too many ways to list. Amongst other things, Chaser was a High in Trial obedience dog, a great upland hunting dog and best friend. Chaser went Best of Opposite Sex at the American National Specialty in Syracuse, New York in Oct. 2007 at the age of 12.

Chaser stamped her kids with her disposition and produced two Master Hunters and many other titled dogs in various venues.

Chelsey: I was lucky enough to meet Chaser at my very first visit to Foxgrove in 2010. Her attitude, energy and movement for her age (almost 15 at the time!) made a huge impression on me.

CH WESTERLEA ELIAS’ TIDAL WAVE SH FBDCH CD WCX, US WC

“Chelsea”

AUG 1991 – AUG 2005

Chelsea came to Sue as an 11 week old puppy and turned life upside down, hence the registered name of “Tidal Wave”. She was a pup with an “on” button but without an “off” button. A go getter from the start, she was an animated pup with a desire to learn. And learn she did!

Chelsea was the first dog that Sue trained toward a field title. She learned fast and was a very birdy pup who showed tons of potential at this game. As a 9 month old she picked up her WC (Working Certificate) title. The next season she became the first Toller bitch to pass the WCI (Working Certificate Intermediate) test and then at 2 yrs of age she passed the WCX (Working Certificate Excellent) to become the first bitch titled at that level. When the CKC Hunt Test program came into existence she added the SH (Senior Hunter) title to her name, again the first Toller to reach this level. In the show ring she picked up her Championship as a puppy with a Puppy Group to her credit. In the obedience ring she was a multiple class winner. The FBDCH (Flyball Championship) title came in one weekend of running.  She was a keen dog who loved to perform in any venue.

For all Chelsea’s own accomplishments her biggest impact on the breed is the quality of the pups she produced. Bred only 3 times, a total of 17 pups, attained over 70 titles in the US and Canada in the field, obedience and show venues. Six of her kids have show championships, 5 have High in Trial wins to their credit and many have multiple field titles. The first two CKC Master Hunters (MH) are a Chels son and daughter, a grandson became the 3rd CKC MH. The first CKC Grand Master Hunter (GMH) is a Chels son. A Chels daughter is an RCMP certified Search and Rescue dog. Chelsea produced pups that were versatile and sound and in themselves left their mark on the Toller breed in many areas. Chelsea is the foundation dam of the Foxgrove lineage and has left an incredible legacy.
